5 BEST home acne tips 2017

I have struggled with acne most of my life and have been on every medication, cream, and laser treatment. Here are my best home acne tips!

1. Microdermabrasion Machine

Microdermabrasion’s are Amazing but can get expensive. Basically this is sucking off all the dead skin. Since I use strong acne creams my skin peels more than the average person. I started to notice when I didn’t do the microdermabrasion regularly, I would break out more. But doing it more = more money. I decided to invest in an at-home microdermabrasion machine. I was spending around $60 every time I went and was going once a week, so $299 for a machine was a great investment!! Plus, it also saves me time…

2. Cut Out Sugar

I wish I would have figured out the connection between sugar and acne sooner! Growing up I had the biggest sweet tooth, which meant a TON of acne…and not just any acne but the big cystic acne. Unfortunately My acne didn’t leave during my teen years and carried over to my adult life. A few years ago I decided to cut out sugar and I saw my skin improving. I still get the small pimples but those big painful cystic acne was pretty much gone!

Since I still LOVE my sugar I switched over to the more natural desserts. One of my favorite sugar replacements is DATES! You can get these tasty treats from Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and other healthy markets. I still eat the natural sugars and have discovered this doesn’t cause me to break out, but everyone is different so try different foods!

Being half asian and growing up with a Japanese mom , I was taught me to drink green tea regularly. Apparently green tea protects the skin from sun damage that enhances the appearance of acne scars!

3. Blue Light Therapy

Don’t Let this photo scare you! LOL! I promise you this isn’t as scary and weird as it looks! I finally decided to get an at-home Blue Light Therapy machine! The reason this works is because acne is sensitive to the blue light, which eliminates the bacteria in oil glands in the skin. I was going to my dermatologist for this procedure which was costing me $200 – $400 a month. The home machine only costs $249, so it was another great investment for my acne.

If you don’t want to invest in the big machine and are still a little freaked out by it all, you can get a cheaper and less intense version. I purchased this set off Groupon for around $60 but there are tons of other options out there. The nice part is the kit comes with three removable lights depending on what you want to treat.

Blue Light: Helps with acne

Red Light: For anti-aging and wrinkles

Green Light: For pigment and scarring

4. Online Dermatologist

One of the fastest and best ways to get rid of your acne is so get a dermatologist and regularly see them every few months! They will know if you need creams and medications to treat your skin. Insurance will usually cover this and will even cover procedures that are for active acne!

However, I know a lot of people don’t have insurance or just have awful insurance and a dermatologist gets expensive plus time consuming. I have recently found out about a cheaper alternative. This is an online dermatologist site called Curology. You sign up online and fill out all your information. You take photos of your face and load them online. The whole process took me around 15-20 minutes. They then matched you with a dermatologist provider and ship your medication right to your door! Pretty cool!

Price: Try it for $19.95

5. Natural Soap Water

The last tip I have is to get a good facial soap! I have discovered La Roche-Posay from my dermatologist and have noticed my acne improving! The great part of La Roche-Posay is that they have Micellar Water Ultra, which replaces the tap water you use to wash your face! The pipes your water come in from can make the water more acidic, messing up your pH balance and breaking you out. You can Learn more about Micellar Water Ultra Here.

La Roche-Posay has other wonderful products. One of my favorites is their sunscreens. They are on the pricer side but worth it for your acne!
